ROBIN SAMILJAN

ABOUT ROBIN

Robin Samiljan grew up in Chicago. After graduating from Vanderbilt University she moved to Swampscott, Massachusetts. The New England landscape stimulated her imagination and prompted her to re-create nature's gifts through visual art. Influenced by "The Tao of Watercolor", she studied with the artist-author Jeanne Carbonetti. Being active in the New England arts community she became the president of the Swampscott Art Association and then the head of the art committee at the Marblehead Art Association.

While teaching watercolor painting at Montserrat College of Art, Robin attended the International Encaustic Conference. She received her Master of Education degree in Arts and Learning at Endicott College, and encaustic paintings were featured in her graduate school exhibition. A move back to Chicago led Robin to explore soft pastel painting. The COVID pandemic allowed her the time to hone and combine a variety of her artistic techniques.

Samiljan continues to work with multiple art mediums using saturated pigments on papers and boards often combined with wax or gesso to create luminous, dimensional textures. She is a signature member of the Chicago Pastel Painters, a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists, and maintained an Artist Membership at the Copley Society of Art in Boston for over a decade. Most recently, her home has transitioned from Chicago to Green Bay where she is actively re-connecting with nature influencing her art. She offers workshops in Door County, Wisconsin at the Peninsula School of Art and weekly classes through Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, WI.
